Overview

The Non-music Major Orchestra is a symphony orchestra comprised of students who wish to continue their orchestral activities. The group meets Mondays from 6:00pm-8:00pm. Rehearsal will primarily be held in the SC South multipurpose room and will be held in alternate venues on occasion. NMO typically gives one performance per semester, our Spring and Fall Concerts.

Mission

The Non-music Major Orchestra at the University of Houston is dedicated to promoting and encouraging students to continue their musical talents.

History

The Non-music Major Orchestra was founded in the spring of 2015 at the University of Houston by Brittany Trinh, Stephen Carroll, Yovani Trujillo, Sarah Banner, and Thao Doan. They were very involved in their orchestra and band programs in high school, but they decided to pursue fields other than music. Because their coursework was demanding, they did not have time to keep up with their music. However, they realized that they, along with many others, did not have to sacrifice their music for their education. To bring music back into their lives, they created the Non-music Major Orchestra.

NMO has been nominated as one of the best student organizations on campus by Coogs Choose back in 2016.
